Lorenzos Bed
48 Pine rods with rounded ends, birch plywood, screws, and mattress, Jun. 2011
Lorenzos bed is a comfortable and playful sleeping environment for a baby. A ribbon of plywood, which is put under tension, holds an oval mattress in place. 48 rods are attached to the plywood in a 15 degree forward leaning angle. This forms a dynamic and elliptical space.
For a newborn, the mattress lies close to the top of the structure, and when the infant can stand up, the bed is to be turned upside down in order to have a higher railing. When the baby has grown older, the parents can remove a few rods to allow him or her to escape.
