Independent 2013, former Dia Building, Chelsea NYC, March 7 – 10, 2013

On the roof of the former Dia Building, a temporary pavilion was constructed following the layouts of the floors below, which reflected the architectural concept for Independent 2013 based on the number 3. The Tetravilion was suspended from the three highest points on the roof: the water tower, the shaft of the freight elevator, and that of the passenger elevator. Three ropes were attached to each point then connected to wooden tetrahedron structures arranged across the roof deck.

These tetrahedrons provided seating for a café, display shelves for three publishers, and anchors for a tent. A transparent membrane that was stretched across the ropes protected visitors from winter weather without obscuring the fantastic views of Manhattan, the Hudson River, New Jersey, and the sky.
