This reading lamp was designed for the master bedroom of the Sun Path House in Miami Beach. Like the curved concrete wall of the house the shape of the lamp is tracing the exact shape of the sun path diagram on Summer Solstice in South Florida. In the house, the curved wall extends from the rooftop solarium, through the bedroom down to the outdoor dining room and the foundation. For the lamp the same path of the sun is rotated 180º around the longest reach of the curvature. After some paper model experiments, we discovered a recently developed technique that allows for direct 3D printing in stainless steel. We love the random glitches and the fingerprint-like finish of the 3D printed metal.

The lamp creates a soft glow for reading, and it projects a sharp line onto the surrounding surfaces of the room that redefines the space.
